The friendly husband and wife team, along with their optician who has been at the Harrisburg optometry and hearing aid practice for more than 25 years, are at your service to make sure your sight and hearing are cared for the way you deserve.

Robert L. Kardos, O.D.

Dr. Robert Kardos earned a B.S. degree in Biophysics and Microbiology, minoring in Chemistry and Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh.

He also received a B.S. degree in Visual Sciences and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia.

Dr. Kardos broadened his knowledge of Optometry by participating in numerous optometric externships. He trained in several subspecialties of optometry including pediatric vision, vision training, low vision, contact lenses, and the treatment and management of eye diseases.

Dr. Kardos joined Dr. Guy Wengert in Harrisburg, PA. After Dr. Wengert’s retirement, Dr. Kardos became the Founder and Director of Central Pennsylvania Eye and Ear – an Optometric and Medical vision and hearing care office.

Dr. Kardos is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Central Pennsylvania Optometric Society. He has served a 2 year term as President of the Central Pennsylvania Optometric Society.IMG 4631 (Copy)

Outside of the office, Dr. Kardos and his wife Dorothy raised 4 children who are now adults and following their own professional careers. He and his wife enjoy many outdoor activities in Central Pennsylvania and also traveling around the world for education to advance their knowledge of Vision and Hearing to improve their patient’s lives.

Dorothy A. Kardos, RN, BSN, Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist

 Dorothy joined the staff of Central Pennsylvania Eye and Ear in 1990 after raising her 4 children. Her specialty areas include fitting digital hearing aids and invisible in canal hearing aids, plus fitting custom hearing protection to prevent hearing loss.

Dorothy Kardos is a Magna cum Laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She has 25 years of in office clinical experience and 10 years of hospital experience. Most of her career has focused on hearing testing and fitting of hearing aids.

Dorothy has been a member of the Pennsylvania Hearing Healthcare Association since 1993, and has served on the association's board of directors since 1995. She has also been a member of the International Hearing Society and a IMG 4647 (Copy)Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist since 1993. She was elected the first female President of the Pennsylvania Hearing Healthcare Association and held the position for 4 years. During her term as President, the association was named the Chapter of the Year by the International Hearing Society.

Dorothy was appointed in 2001 to the Pennsylvania Governor's Hearing Aid Sales and Registration Law Advisory Council by then Governor Richard Schweiker. Her appointment was extended in 2010 by Governor Ed Rendell and she continues to serve on this on the council today.

Dorothy enjoys attending professional seminars throughout the United States to help all of her patients improve their quality of life with better hearing.
